07-31-2015 JLTGG: Cheeseburger Fundraiser

“Cheeseburgers in Paradise—2015”

Thanks for purchasing our “Cheeseburgers in Paradise” experience at the 2014 Jefferson Land Trust RainFest Auction.  The event is coming up (just 3 months away), so prepare your beachwear and start listening to Jimmy Buffett (see lyrics below).

THE EVENT:  “Cheeseburger in Paradise” We’ll be channeling Jimmy Buffett at the Kala Point Gazebo.  This special waterside dinner features Angus grass-fed beef cheeseburgers, beach fries, sailors’ salad, and beer and/or margaritas compliments of the Reids.  If Jimmy Buffett can’t make it, his music will.

HOSTS:  Michael Machette, Jerri and David Reid (your JLT brain trust at work!)

DATE & TIME:  From 4-7 pm on Friday, July 31, 2015

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:  From Highway 20, turn east onto Prospect Ave (at the old Dream City Cafe/new San Juan Tacqueria).  Go one mile to Kala Point Drive (4 way stop).  Turn left and proceed to entrance gate (2 blocks).  It will be open until 6 pm; proceed to the first right, which is Sailview Drive.  Go about 1/2 mile down to the beach and park in the lot or along the beach (just don’t block traffic).  There should be plenty of space.  The Gazebo is left (towards PT), you’ll hear Jimmy.

WHAT YOU GET FOR YOUR MONEY:  Angus grass-fed 1/3 pound beef cheeseburgers, beach fries (yes, made right there), sailors’ salad, and beer and/or margaritas.  A bocce ball if you are so inclined.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:  A beach chair, comfortable clothing including a light jacket (when the sun goes behind the bluff and the wind comes up, it can be chilly).

“Cheeseburger In Paradise”

                        (Thanks to Kathryn Lamka for digging up these lyrics)

Tried to amend my carnivorous habits.
Made it nearly seventy days,
Losin’ weight without speed, eatin’ sunflower seeds,
Drinkin’ lots of carrot juice and soakin’ up rays.

But at night I’d have these wonderful dreams
Some kind of sensuous treat.
Not zucchini, fettuccini, or bulgur wheat,
But a big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat.

Cheeseburger is paradise.

Heaven on earth with an onion slice

Not too particular, not too precise.
I’m just a cheeseburger in paradise.

Heard about the old time sailor men,
They eat the same thing again and again;
Warm beer and bread they say could raise the dead.
Well, it reminds me of the menu at a Holiday Inn.

But times have changed for sailors these days.
When I’m in port I get what I need;
Not just Havanas or banana or daiquiris,
But that American creation on which I feed!

Cheeseburger is paradise medium rare with mustard be nice
Not too particular, not too precise
I’m just a cheeseburger in paradise.

I like mine with lettuce and tomato
Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes
Big kosher pickle and a cold draught beer
Well, good God Almighty which way do I steer

For a cheeseburger in paradise
Makin’ the best of every virtue and vice.
Worth every damn bit of sacrifice
To get a cheeseburger in paradise;
To be a cheeseburger in paradise.
I’m just a cheeseburger in paradise.
